TELEMARC study: remote monitoring more effective in detecting cardiac arrhythmias than classical Holter
Almost a month ago, a meeting "Telecardiology – faster, cheaper, safer", organized by the Institute of Cardiology and the Foundation "Heart for Arrhythmia", took place. It presented the results of TELEMARC study, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund. Its aim was to compare the 24-hour Holter monitoring to the long-term monitoring of heart rate. Classical method allowed the diagnosis of arrhythmia in 39% of cases, while the long-term monitoring made it possible for up to 65% of cardiac arrhythmias. – “TELEMARC research showed how much the diagnostic efficacy can be achieved using telecardiology solutions to patients with cardiac arrhythmias. This allows for quick diagnosis and immediate implementation of proper treatment to prevent further disease progression. We can effectively protect patients from arrhythmia complications and disabilities” – said professor Łukasz Szumowski from Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw. According to dr Radosław Sierpiński form Clinic Heart Rhythm Disorders of Institute of Cardiology in Warsaw, telecardiology solutions provide ample opportunities for the diagnosis and treatment of patients suffering from arrhythmia. – “Long-term, systemic solutions will allow us to quickly diagnose and treat, and thus – to protect patients against serious complications such as arrhythmias, eg. stroke" – said dr Sierpiński. The doctors stressed that patients who use telemedicine solutions like remote monitoring enjoy more comfortable life. This is due to efficient scheduling follow-up visits only in situations where required by their state of health. Mobility and compact devices allow then work freely, travel and lead normal life. Patients share the opinion of experts. Three-quarters of respondents admitted that usage of remote monitoring significantly increased their sense of security. 9 out of 10 people are mobilized to physical activity as a result of increased awareness of the disease and the need for care about health.
